Hello Ladies,
If you are a female athlete, eighteen years of age or older, who competes in off-road ultramarathons, you are invited to participate in the following study. Below is the abstract of the study followed by a link to the survey. My motivation for this research stems from my passion for ultrarunning and awareness of the lack of information available about who we are and what we do. My research findings will be posted here on December 15, 2008, so please check back. Thank you for your participation.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Rhonna Krouse at rzkrouse@cableone.net or Dr. Lynda Ransdell at 208- 426-4270 or LYNDARANSDELL@BOISESTATE.EDU. If you have questions or concerns regarding the study and would like to talk to someone other than the researchers, you may also contact The Institutional Review Board. You may reach the board from 8:00am to 5:00pm (MST) Monday through Friday at 208-426-5401, or by writing: The Institutional Review Board Office of Research Compliance, Boise State University, 1919 University Dr. Boise, ID. 83725-1138.
ABSTRACT
Currently, there is limited research on ultrarunners and no research specific to women ultrarunners. Given the lack of consensus about motivational factors for exercising versus competing in sports, the demanding nature of ultrarunning, and the lack of research on women ultrarunners, the primary purpose of this study is to identify two distinguishing characteristics in women ultrarunners: motivation patterns and goal orientation. In addition, the aim of this study is to describe the women ultrarunning population and commonalities within the ultrarunning community and differences between ultrarunners and other athletes.
The main research questions for this study are:
1) What are the predominant motivational factors that contribute to participation in ultrarunning?
2) What type of goals do women ultrarunners set?
3) What are the common characteristics that women ultrarunners share?
4) Are women ultrarunners different from other athletes in other endurance sports?
Completion time of this survey will take approximately fifteen minutes.
I look forward to sharing the results with you,
Rhonna Krouse
By accessing this survey you are consenting to participate in this study but you are free to stop at any time.
Survey closes November 1, 2008 at 12AM (MST).
